Julian Fury Clothing sat down with superstar Shayna Baszler for an exclusive interview...

  Question & Answer

Who are your favorite fighters? Is there one fighter you respect above all others?

Josh Barnett and BJ Penn... I respect all the rest of the Angels of Destruction, because we all know the pains and hell we go through training with Josh. How much of an emphasis do you place on cardio? Cardio is the #1 submission. What is your approach to nutrition? I eat healthy and good 6 days a week and have 1 cheat day. Do you take any supplements? Yes. I take fish oil, protien, vitamins, and colostrum.

What was the turning point for you to get into fighting?

I started training ground to beat a boxer at a local show. How many hours a day do you train? 4-6 From a fans perspective, what is the attraction do you think? Why do people like to watch it? Because at any moment, it could end.

Has your fighting style evolved over the years or have you stuck with a specific style throughout?

Yes... Definately evolved. My game has definately rounded out.

So what is your main strength when it comes to fighting?
I finish people... I get sent out into the wild and have to fight my way back through cunning and survival skills... My drills get more fight specific for the opponent and my cardio increases alot, of course.

Do you do anything special before every fight?

I Bless my power fists (for the Warhammer fans). What gives you the ability to win? KNOWING that that place is mine.

Have you ever knocked out someone? Describe your first KO.  How did it feel?

Yes, I have one knockout in an amateur fight a few years ago. I didn't even know it happened, I jumped on her and started finishing her off with punches before they pulled me off to stop the fight.

What are some standout moments for you as a fighter?

My 2nd fight with Buckner I think really showed that I belong in the upper tier of women in the sport. Other than that, I think my career turn that has happened since signing with Proelite has been a HUGE landmark for me. Nine of your fights were won by Submissions.... but you are also good at standup fighting. which do you prefer? If I knock you out, you can say I got lucky and make excuses, or even claim you weren't knocked out. If you tap, that's ALL you, saying I beat you. There's no argument, no denial.

So is self-belief a big factor with you? Are you still training with UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett? what has he taught you? Self belief is HUGE. And that is actually what training with Josh (yes I still train with him) does for me. He took my mind from "it's such an honor to be here" to "this is MY place, I DESERVE to be here."

You are a great fighter..do you think you will ever be on the same card as Gina Carano? My goal is to fight the best, and if EliteXC has her as the best right now, then yes, it's my goal to be on the same card across the ring from her. Wheter EliteXC does it or not is up to them, I fight whoever they tell me to.

Going into each fight do you have a specific approach, or do you tailor your training according to your opponent?

No, I have a general approach, but I definately tailor my fight training for my opponent. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a punch... I get sent out into the wild and have to fight my way back through cunning and survival skills.....My drills get more fight specific for the opponent and my cardio increases alot, of course.

Is there anyone in particular you would like to thank? Anything else you wish to say?

I would like to thank my parents for all they have done for me, including my two sisters – Ila and Christina.  Thank you for always supporting me! Check out Strikeforce on June 27th at the HP in San Jose, CA; my fight will be fight of the night!

Speaking of clothing, after most of your fights what do you wear? Who are some of your sponsors?

Directly after, I wear whatever sponsor I'm supposed to, and later that night, whatever I have, just make sure it's rockstar! My sponsors are... Hitman Fight Gear, Sinful, ESP, Room101 Silver, Cryogel, and the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz
